Double Patty (Double Love), A love movie starring Irene (Red Velvet group) and Shin Seung Ho, just premiered in Vietnam on April 21, 2021.

Irene’s beauty and acting in this movie are two big highlights. Viewers couldn’t help but admire from the trailer when Irene appeared with a simple but still shimmering image “like a goddess”. However, her acting when disappointed many people. The audience thinks that Irene is really beautiful but her expression is still poor and her voice is also unnatural.

This is the first time a female idol has appeared on the big screen as the female lead, it is hard to ask for Irene to always be excellent in every frame. If more tolerant, it can be seen that the beauty has partly conveyed the character’s energy and vitality through her eyes. Looking at it another way, with Irene’s inherent charm, Double Patty had the opportunity to promote the national culture to an international audience – especially the cuisine.

The two main characters enjoyed a lot of Korean specialties together. Interestingly, they are all not so common dishes at restaurants in Vietnam.

The first “date” of student Hyun Ji (Irene) and wrestler Woo Ram (Seung Ho) took place at a pub. Their hot, full-bodied beef hotpot is one of Korean favourites, especially on a cold day.

When the hot pot is almost dry, Koreans often mix rice so that this layer of rice blends with the spicy hot pot to finish the meal.

Fermented Stingray (Hongeo-hoe)

This is a Korean specialty, specifically from South Jeolla province, but it is a “nightmare” for many diners. They have other excretory organs, so they process waste in the body by secreting through the skin, this waste will be excreted in the form of uric acid. When Koreans ferment stingrays, the uric acid in their skin turns into ammonia, which has a rather unpleasant odor.

Fermented stingray is often eaten with boiled pork belly, kimchi and soju to reduce the characteristic odor. If you can stand this smell, stingray meat will make you excited because it’s firm, tough, and has an interesting layer of cartilage to sip.

This persistent smell will follow you for hours, so the male lead in Double Patty Wherever you go, you will be “discriminated” after eating this dish.

Stewed tilapia (Agujjim)

Agujjim (stewed tilapia) is a steamed tilapia dish with bean sprouts, minari (Korean parsley) and hot chili peppers. This is a Korean favorite dish, so restaurants specializing in agujjim are quite easy to find.

Agujjim originates from the coastal cities in the South of Korea. This stewed tilapia dish uses a lot of chili powder, chili sauce and other ingredients from vegetables, so Koreans like it because it’s nutritious, warms up, and is quite rich. When finished eating fish, the remaining sauce will be used to mix rice.

Besides the 3 specialties above, grilled meat, mixed rice, Korean soju Chumchurum … are also very charmingly integrated into the film. If we ignore the stereotype that the female lead Irene is a “mobile vase”, it can be said that Double Patty has contributed to promoting and bringing the characteristics of Korean culture closer to viewers.
