Som Rong – Soc Trang temple leaves lots of believers check fascinated

The source of this exceptional title Som Rong along with the history of this temple’s creation

Som Rong Pagoda’s complete title is Botum Vong Sa Som Rong, frequently known by locals as Som Rong for easy remembering. The pagoda is situated in 367 Ton Duc Thang, Ward 5, City. Soc Trang, Soc Trang province.

The title Som Rong stems in the fact that in years past there are many trees termed Som Rong growing wild round the temple) Since afterward, the pagoda was named following this tree and has existed for at least 600 decades up to now. According to legend, Som Rong pagoda was built 600 decades back, originally built up from quite basic materials like leaves and bamboo. The old temple is situated across the road and about 1km in the present Som Rong pagoda.

Due into the narrow region, insufficient space for spiritual and cultural activities of the individuals, in January 1725, the pagoda has been moved to its current site. Som Rong – a monumental job bearing the imprint of Khmer temple structure

Som Rong Pagoda is situated on a place of ​​over 5 hectares, split into several regions like the primary hallway, sala, reclining Buddha, monks, stupas… In which, the main hallway is the major area to worship Buddha. The whole principal hallway consists of 6 rows of columns and the roof includes 3 overlapping roof systems. Each corner of the roof is adorned with dragon statues of Khmer people. The roof adjacent to the pillar is adorned with statues of goddess Keynor along with also the bird god Krud – a sign of majesty and strength in Khmer culture.

The most distinctive of Som Rong pagoda is the stupa having an area of ​​100m2, 11m wide and 25m high. The stupa contains 4 faces representing the four instructions: Compassion – Compassion – Happiness – Equanimity. Along the two sides of the trail leading to the stupa are two figurines of Naga snakes and exquisitely carved early Khmer patterns. Prominent at the middle of this stupa is that the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha meditating painted in stone, facing west. The stupa is made up of two floors. The upper floor is where to put away the ashes of those four late Mothers, monks, and temple abbots throughout the ages. The lower ground is where greater than 400 jars of the ash of folks who can’t afford to construct their own towers are retained.

Construction began in October 2017, the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha entering nirvana is among the biggest reclining Buddha statues in Vietnam today. The statue is 63m long, 22.5m high and weighs 490 tons, put on a high base so many traffic can quickly view it in a distance of hundreds of yards. Many traffic come here not merely admiring the complex structure of Som Rong pagoda, but also overwhelmed with the imperial scale and beauty of the statue.

Soc Trang is a community full of identification of three cultural groups Kinh, Hoa and Khmer. With over 200 temples, such as almost 100 Khmer temples across the state, these religious functions aren’t just a location for pilots to worship and practice Buddha, but also a place for conventional activities, helping the religious life. Soul of the native people. And Som Rong Pagoda – with its splendor and magnificence – seems to become the perfect stopover and becomes a location to “haven’t come yet, don’t hurry back” when vacationers get dropped Soc Trang.
